Aadhaar Card Rules for OCI Cardholders: Today, the Aadhaar card has become the basis for almost every task in India. Its need is constantly increasing, from banking to government schemes. Nearly 90 percent of the country's population has an Aadhaar card. This is why many OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) cardholders also want to know.

Can they get an Aadhaar card or not? Let us tell you that an OCI card does not confer Indian citizenship, but it gets many benefits in India. Therefore, people often ask whether Aadhaar is available to them. If you are also an OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) cardholder, learn what the rules say about it.

What do the Aadhaar rules say for OCI cardholders?

An OCI card is issued to individuals with Indian roots but who are now citizens of another country. They enjoy significant travel and residence privileges in India. Regarding whether these individuals can obtain an Aadhaar card, UIDAI rules state that any foreign national, including OCI holders,

If they have lived in India for at least 182 days in the last 12 months can apply for an Aadhaar card. This rule also applies to long-term visa holders and citizens of Nepal and Bhutan. This means that they have the right to obtain an Aadhaar card, but the only requirement is that they must prove their presence in India for the specified period.

What is the application process?

To obtain an Aadhaar card, an OCI holder must provide proof of identity and address. A valid OCI card or foreign passport can be used for identification. For address proof, one of the valid Indian address proof documents issued by UIDAI is required. The nomination process is complete once the documents are complete. Regarding validity, the Aadhaar card issued to Indian citizens is valid for life.

On the other hand, the validity of Aadhaar cards issued to OCI and other foreign nationals is limited. For visa or LTV holders, the validity period is the same as the visa's validity period. For OCI, Nepal, and Bhutanese citizens, the validity period of Aadhaar cards is 10 years from the date of nomination. After that, it must be updated.
