Mammootty is gearing up for the release of his most awaited 'Kalamkaval' and the superstar recently shared how he prefers to be approached by scriptwriters.
In a promotional interview shared by Mammootty's production house, the megastar stated that filmmakers should focus on shaping the character authentically. He said that the character should be developed without picturing him during the writing process.
“When you write a story or develop a script, don’t picture me in the role. If you do that, I’ll just end up becoming the character you imagined. Focus purely on the character itself, only then films like 'Kalamkaval' become possible.” he said.
Mammootty on choosing films no one expects to see him in
The actor also revealed how his production company shortlists projects. According to him, the team intentionally looks for films that others may hesitate to produce with him or ones that cannot guarantee predictable box-office success.
“We pick films that other producers may not want to or may not be able to make with me, projects where commercial success isn’t guaranteed or predictable, ” he explained.
He added that even when a film has the potential to succeed commercially, it must offer “something different,” citing 'Rorschach', 'Kannur Squad', and 'Turbo' as examples of stories that broke the mould but still connect deeply with audiences.
Taking the boldest step yet in ‘Kalamkaval’ as the villain
At the pre-release event, Mammootty finally confirmed the speculation around his role in 'Kalamkaval'. He shared that Vinayakan plays the protagonist in the film while he steps completely into the antagonist’s shoes. “The hero of this film is Vinayakan, and I am also the hero… but the villain,” he said with a smile.
He further admitted that viewers might struggle to warm up to his character. Mammootty said, “The character I play in this film may be very difficult for you to love or like.” Speaking about the prolonged wait for the film’s release, the actor reflected, “After quite some time, one of my films is releasing. This film got delayed a little for reasons you all know. This is a film I really wanted to do.”
Calling 'Kalamkaval' his biggest character experiment, audiences are eagerly waiting for what Mammootty and his team have to offer in the upcoming thriller film.
