Ola and Ather's troubles may rise: VinFast to enter India's electric scooter market in 2026

Vietnamese EV manufacturer VinFast, known globally for its rapid expansion, is now preparing to enter India’s electric two-wheeler market. After showcasing the VF 7 and VF 6 electric cars in India, the company is reportedly ready to launch its first set of electric scooters in 2026. This move is expected to intensify competition for established players such as Ola Electric, Ather, TVS, and Bajaj.

VinFast electric scooters: Possible models for India
In Vietnam, VinFast already sells multiple electric scooters, and some of these may arrive in India after testing and adaptation for Indian roads and climate. The lineup includes:

Feliz
Klara Neo
Theon S
Vero X
Vento S
Evo Grand

These models are listed on VinFast’s Vietnam website, but the company has not yet announced which specific scooters will be introduced in India. Reports suggest VinFast may conduct trials of all models before finalizing the India lineup.

Why Indian EV companies should worry
India’s electric two-wheeler market is expanding rapidly. Ola and Ather currently dominate the premium EV scooter segment, while TVS and Bajaj have steadily strengthened their presence.

VinFast’s entry may disrupt the market because:

• International brands draw strong consumer interest
• VinFast may offer competitive pricing
• Their scooters are known for premium features and modern design
• Wider product choices will attract customers looking beyond Indian brands

A strong push for the Indian market
VinFast has made its intentions clear by planning a massive $2 billion (approx. ₹16,000 crore) investment to expand its EV business in India. The company is already setting up a manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu, which currently has a capacity to produce 50,000 electric vehicles per year. Local manufacturing could help the company price its products competitively.

What this means for Indian buyers
• More options in premium and mid-range EV scooters
• Better technology and features due to global competition
• Expected reduction in overall EV pricing over time
• Improved battery performance and range due to innovation pressure on all brands

VinFast’s entry signals that India is becoming one of the most important EV markets in the world. For consumers, this means excitement. For existing EV brands—this could mean serious competition.
