The Brigadier Usman Premier League (BUPL) for the 2025-26 season has commenced in the Nowshera sector of Rajouri, organized by the Indian Army as part of Operation Sadbhavna. This cricket tournament aims to foster sportsmanship, enhance community ties, and deter youth from substance abuse.
Community Support for the Initiative
Kashif Wani, a player, praised the initiative, stating, "We commend the Indian Army for safeguarding our nation and its borders. Simultaneously, they are engaging the youth to steer clear of drugs and similar distractions. Currently, 16 teams are competing, involving around 270-280 players. Additionally, cultural activities attract approximately 2,000-3,000 children to this event."
Importance of the Tournament
Sohail Dar from Asan Warriors emphasized the tournament's significance, saying, "The Army's main objective is to reconnect with our youth, who are often sidetracked by drugs. Sports serve as a means to re-engage them, helping them return to the field and escape the negativity in our society. This event promotes unity among Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, and Christians alike."
Platform for Local Talent
Gulam Mustafa, captain of Peer Panjal Royals, remarked on the tournament's role in showcasing local talent. He stated, "Named after Brigadier Usman, this tournament provides an excellent opportunity for us to display our skills and avoid drugs. It fosters camaraderie among the boys, allowing them to meet, play, and bond. The Army organizes this event, ensuring our borders are secure while also giving us a chance to compete. This is a significant event for us."
Educational Perspective
Pankaj Thakur, a Physical Education Teacher, also commended the initiative, noting, "The matches organized by the Indian Army are a commendable effort to keep children away from drugs. With 16 teams participating, we will assess each child's potential and future prospects."

BJP leader Ravinder Raina expressed gratitude for the Army's involvement, stating, "The Army has organized a cricket tournament in Nowshera near the Line of Control in honor of Brigadier Usman Sahib, with numerous young participants. Match Day 1 Highlights Match 1: FCC Bajabain vs Sikh Cricket Club
In the opening match, FCC Bajabain triumphed over Sikh Cricket Club by six wickets. Sikh Cricket Club set a target of 118 runs, scoring 118/4 in 15 overs. FCC Bajabain successfully chased the target, finishing with 122/4 in just 12.3 overs, with Ranjeet Singh earning the Man of the Match title for his unbeaten score of 91.
Match 2: Lam Cricket Club vs Rajput Cricket Club
In the second match, Lam Cricket Club defeated Rajput Cricket Club by three wickets. Rajput Cricket Club batted first, managing 104/8 in 15 overs. Lam Cricket Club reached 105/7 in 14.3 overs, with Irfan Khan being named Man of the Match for his outstanding all-round performance.
