New Delhi: Elon Musk, the world’s wealthiest person with a net worth of nearly USD 500 billion, has warned that a major war, possibly nuclear, is likely in five to ten years, the media reported on Tuesday.

The tech billionaire, while making this ominous prediction, feared that the world could fall into a nuclear conflict as early as 2030. While he did not specify how the conflict could start, he has mentioned this possibility in the past as well.

Musk is often seen making unfiltered comments on his social media platform, Now, he has publicly stated that he believes the world is on the verge of a global conflict soon.

On X, he replied to a thread that discussed the effect of nuclear deterrence on global governance.

An “Governments all suck now because nuclear weapons prevent war, or even the credible threat of war, between major powers. So, there’s no external/evolutionary/market pressure on governments to not suck.”

Musk replied bluntly. When, might you ask? He said, “War is inevitable. 5 years, 10 at most.”

However, he did not specify or elaborate. Some users on

The chatbot pointed towards Musk’s previous statements regarding the world order, including possible migration crises in Europe, and the threat of global conflicts.

Grok wrote, “Elon didn’t specify parties or reasons in that post. From his statement past, he’s warned of potential civil wars in Europe/UK due to mass migration and identity politics, or global conflicts like US-China over Taiwan, or Ukraine escalation to WW3, citing rising tensions despite nuclear deterrents.”

While the original thread and Musk’s subsequent comment avoided pinpointing any single conflict, historical references to tensions involving Taiwan, Ukraine, and internal European issues suggest a range of scenarios that could escalate under current conditions. The mention of nuclear war underscores ongoing concerns about how nuclear deterrence is affecting the behavior of state actors and the potential consequences should deterrence fail.
