Aadhar card, which is considered to be the main basis of identity of common citizens and government schemes, will no longer be accepted as proof of date of birth. The Uttar Pradesh government has issued clear instructions to all the departments saying that Aadhar card should not be considered as an official document of date of birth for any service, process or proof. According to the government, the date of birth recorded in Aadhar card is often approximate, hence it is not appropriate to use it as a reliable document. As soon as the government order was issued, the biggest question that arose in the minds of common people was that which document will now be valid for proof of date of birth.

To this end, the government has clarified that the birth certificate will be considered the primary and authoritative document. This certificate is issued by the Municipal Corporation, Gram Panchayat, or Birth and Death Registrar's office and is legally the most authentic proof of the correct date of birth. However, many families do not have access to a birth certificate, especially in rural areas where birth registration was previously not regular. In such a situation, the government has allowed high school or intermediate mark sheets, school leaving certificates, or other educational documents issued by recognized boards to be accepted as proof of date of birth. All these records are considered official records of the previously recorded date of birth and can be used in government processes.

Those who do not yet have a birth certificate can obtain one from their local authority or registrar's office. Documents proving the birth must be submitted, such as a hospital discharge slip, vaccination card, ration card, or parental affidavit. After completing the necessary paperwork, a birth certificate can be easily obtained.
This new government directive will ensure transparency and authenticity in birth date records. It will also help ensure future accuracy of documents and reduce procedural complexities in government schemes.
