Children will be taught disaster management skills in Delhi schools. Under this, mock drills will also be organized in schools. In this regard, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday launched the ‘Disaster Ready School Campaign’ at Springdales School on Pusa Road. The campaign has been launched in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority and Delhi Disaster Management Authority.

Two days training mock drill in the first phase

It is said that in the first phase of the campaign, a two-day structural training and mock drill program will be organized in all the government, government-aided and recognized private schools of Delhi. Before the famous Operation Sindoor, mock drills were organized in different schools and offices of Delhi as well as NCR. However, this campaign will run only to teach children survival skills in case of disaster.

LG told special need

Cabinet Minister Ashish was also present during the program. Earthquake safety drill, drop-cover-hold demonstration etc. were demonstrated by the children during the programme. Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena said that this program is an important resolution towards making children safe and aware. There is a special need for this in the present times.

Will be implemented in all schools of Delhi

Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena said that Delhi is highly sensitive to earthquakes due to its location in Seismic Zone-4. Not only this, risks like fire, heat wave, waterlogging make the situation more challenging. This campaign will be ensured through security audit in all five and a half thousand schools of Delhi.

Children will tell ways to escape

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta described the children as ‘brand ambassadors’ of this campaign. He said that just as the children had taught their parents not to litter during the cleanliness campaign, in the same way these children will now teach the culture of disaster safety to their family and society.

Presence of mind is very important

The CM stressed on the need for children to use ‘Drop, Cover and Hold’ technique and ‘Presence of Mind’ during an earthquake as earthquake is a sudden situation. In this, quick and correct response is very important. The Chief Minister stressed on making safety a part of daily habits and adopting preparedness as a continuous practice.

A visionary start for the entire country

CM described children as the main medium for spreading awareness in the society and expressed confidence that our children will become ‘Safety Ambassadors’ and make their families and communities aware. On this occasion, Delhi Cabinet Minister Ashish Sood said that this is a visionary beginning not only for Delhi but for the entire country.

These people are also helping

Ashish Sood said that today a big campaign has been started towards creating ‘Disaster Ready Capital’. The government is ready to take this campaign to all the government, NDMC, MCD and private schools of Delhi. Lakhs of students, principals, volunteers, DDMA’s fire service, civil defence, Aapda Mitras in six educational districts are working together to make it a success.
