Sarson Ka Saag: Make Punjabi style mustard saag in winter, know the complete recipe

Sarson Ka Saag: As the winter season begins, the requests for food in homes increase. Especially the taste and nutritional value of green leafy vegetables available in this season is not good. Vegetables like fenugreek, spinach, bathua and mustard not only keep the body warm, but are also very tasty to eat.

One of these is the famous dish of Punjab, Sarson Ka Saag, which is eaten with great enthusiasm all over the country. Its taste is doubled with corn bread and a spoonful of white butter.

Ingredients required to make Sarson Ka Saag

mustard greens – 500 Gram

spinach – 250 Gram

bathua – 150 Gram (optional)

fenugreek leaves – 50 Gram (optional)

Onion – 1 (finely chopped)

Tomato – 2 (chopped or pureed)

Garlic – 5–6 buds (chopped)

Ginger – 1 inches (grated)

Green chilly – 2–3

corn flour – 2 tablespoons

butter/ghee – 2–3 tablespoons

Salt , according to taste

Water , as required

for tempering

Ghee – 1 big spoon

Garlic – 3–4 buds

chilli powder – 1 small spoon

How to make Punjabi style Sarson ka Saag

First of all, wash mustard, spinach, bathua and fenugreek leaves thoroughly and chop them roughly. Put salt, green chillies and some water in a big vessel, cover and cook for 20 minutes.–25 Cook on low flame for minutes until soft. When the mixture cools down, make a thick paste with the help of a hand blender or a churner.

Now heat ghee in a pan and add garlic, ginger and onion and fry until golden. After this, add tomatoes and cook until the ghee starts separating from the spices. Now add the prepared greens paste to it. Then add corn flour dissolved in some water, so that the saag becomes thick well. Cook it on low flame for 15 minutes–20 Cook while stirring for a minute.

Add wonderful tadka at the end

Heat ghee in a small pan, add garlic, let it turn golden and then add red chilli powder. Pour this tadka over hot greens. That’s it, your Punjabi style Sarson Ka Saag is ready.

Serve it with hot corn bread, butter, jaggery and chopped onions. This dish is not only excellent in taste, but is also very beneficial for health in winter.
