Pakistan After independence, there are many examples in the political history of the country not only involving power reforms but also murders, disputed deaths and lack of impartial justice. Many former Prime Ministers, Presidents and military rulers of Pakistan are included in this list, who died either in bullets, bombs or plane crashes. The death sentence given to a former PM was called ‘judicial murder’ there. This is being mentioned in Pakistan because for the last few days there has been a massive protest there regarding the assassination of Imran Khan. Know complete information about such incidents.
Former PM of Pakistan imran khan The rumor of his death created a stir in Pakistan. There was a rumor that Imran Khan has been murdered in jail. However, this false news was spread. This has not been officially confirmed. It is believed that he is alive and has been in jail for a long time.
Actually, the assassination of PM in Pakistan also has its own history. Although this time the rumor of Imran Khan may be false, but many PMs of Pakistan have been murdered before this. In the year 2022, there has also been a fatal attack on Imran Khan, when he was addressing the public. Although nothing happened to them.
The names of Prime Ministers who have been murdered or sentenced to death so far in Pakistan include Benazir Bhutto, former PM, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, former PM and Liaquat Ali Khan, the first PM of Pakistan. How Zila-ul-Haq military dictators, Ayub Khan, Yahya Khan, Mohammad Ali Jinnah died remains a matter of controversy and mystery even today. There are different perceptions about these people in Pakistan.
Liaquat Ali Khan: Was the first Prime Minister of Pakistan. On 16 October 1951, he was shot at while speaking from the stage during a public rally (Company Bagh) in Rawalpindi. After being shot, he was taken to the hospital, where he died. It was told that the attacker was an Afghan citizen. His name was Sayyid Akbar Babrak, who was shot dead by the police while he was running away. The real reason for the murder is not completely clear yet, but it was considered a political murder.
Benazir Bhutto: Benazir Bhutto became the PM of Pakistan twice. First time in 1988 and second time in 1993. On 27 December 2007, after an election rally in Rawalpindi, he was shot at while waving to the public from the sunroof of his car and a suicide bomb blast occurred soon after. He was taken to the hospital. Doctors declared him dead. Initial claims said she was shot, while others said she died due to the explosion. There is controversy over what caused the murder (explosion or bullet). Benazir’s assassination was clearly considered a political assassination.
Zulfikar Ali Bhutto: Former Prime Minister and President of Pakistan. He was removed from power in 1977. He then went on trial on a murder charge in 1978-79 and was found guilty. He was hanged in Rawalpindi jail on 4 April 1979. However, in 2024 the Supreme Court of Pakistan said that he was hanged under an unfair trial. His hanging was later called judicial murder.
controversial death
Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq: He was a military dictator who changed the ruling regime in 1977 and imposed military rule. On August 17, 1988, his plane (C-130 aircraft) crashed, in which he and other senior officers died. Many people believe that this accident was a conspiracy. The death of the military ruler is considered a conspiracy murder. The death was officially declared a plane crash, but speculations of foul play and murder persist.
Mohammed Ali Jinnah: The death of Pakistan’s founder Mohammad Ali Jinnah still remains a mystery. Sister Fatima Jinnah wrote a book about his death. The name was- My Brother. This book could not be published in Pakistan for a long time. Permission was not granted. Even when it was published, many important parts of it were deleted. Such parts, in which Fatima was criticizing the Pakistani government. In this book, Fatima Jinnah wrote that her close ones were waiting for her to die. Jinnah was isolated to a great extent even during his lifetime. In his last days, many of his close friends used to go to see him just to see how much life was left in Jinnah. He was waiting for Jinnah to die. There is no shortage of people speculating that perhaps a conspiracy was hatched to kill Jinnah. Or at least they were allowed to die.
There are many reasons for this speculation. For two years after Jinnah’s death, Fatima Jinnah was not allowed to speak at any public event. Jinnah’s third death anniversary came in 1951. Only then did Fatima get permission to give a radio message in the name of Pakistan. In her radio message, as soon as Fatima started mentioning the ambulance stopping on the day of Jinnah’s death, the broadcast was cut off. Fatima always suspected that the ambulance had run out of petrol that day. Rather it was probably a conspiracy.
Ahsan Iqbal: Was a politician and Interior Minister of Pakistan. On 6 May 2018, he was attacked after a rally in Punjab province. The attacker shot him, he was hit in the right shoulder. They were rescued on the spot. He did not die.
They were forced to die by suffocation
Ayub Khan: The record of becoming the first military ruler of Pakistan is recorded in the name of Ayub Khan. During his rule, there was economic development in Pakistan, but public anger against corruption and inequality flared up. Ayub Khan was the youngest general in the Pakistani Army who became a self-proclaimed Field Marshal in the military history of Pakistan. He was the first military commander in the history of Pakistan, who captured power by leading a military rebellion against the government. By 1969, mass movements and political instability surrounded him. Sick and tired, Ayub resigned on 25 March 1969. He handed over the power of Pakistan to Yahya Khan. It is being said that he resigned under pressure. The last days of Ayub Khan’s life were spent in solitude in Islamabad, his last days were spent in anonymity and humiliation. By the time he died in Rawalpindi in 1974, Pakistan was divided into two parts.
Yahya Khan: General Yahya Khan took over power from Ayub, but his rule was infamous due to the Bangladesh crisis and the India-Pakistan war of 1971. After losing Bangladesh and defeat by India, Yahya Khan had lost the trust of the public and the army. The pressure on him to resign increased. On 20 December 1971, he handed over power to Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. After this the bad days of Yahya Khan started. Yahya Khan was put under house arrest in a rest house in Banni near Kharian. General Yahya Khan died on August 10, 1980. Yahya’s end was shrouded in dishonor and obscurity.
From this perspective, the only electoral or public murders and murder-suspicious deaths occurred of three prominent Prime Ministers and leaders. These include the names of Liaquat Ali Khan, Benazir Bhutto and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. Military dictator Zia-ul-Haq died in a controversial plane crash. Ahsan Iqbal was attacked, but did not die.
Imran Khan cannot be murdered, but why?
For the last few days, protests have been at its peak against the government and military administration regarding the murder of Imran Khan. Imran’s supporters are suspecting that his army chief Asim Munir has got him murdered. However, this has not been confirmed yet. At the same time, a large group of people of Pakistan believe that they cannot be killed. But why, many reasons are being given behind this. As:
- Imran Khan has a huge fan following at the international level. Because of cricket, politics and humanitarian work. There will be a huge reaction in the world on the murder of such a high-profile figure, which will put Pakistan under severe pressure.
- The assassination of Imran Khan can create a situation like large-scale riots, violence and civil war in the country. This would be political suicide for any entity in power.
- Even though relations between Imran and the Pakistan Army are strained, his assassination will seriously damage both the army’s international image and domestic stability. The army does not take such big risks.
- Even after the previous attacks, fierce protests were seen in Pakistan. Next time this protest may go completely out of control. Because of this, the possibility of state-level planning is very less.
- The government and institutions have imposed heavy security on Imran Khan, because they know that the responsibility of any incident will fall directly on him.
- America, UK and EU are constantly monitoring the political situation of Pakistan. Imran’s assassination may isolate Pakistan at the global level.
UN expressed concern
Pakistan Army Chief and Field Marshal Asim Munir has officially become the most powerful person in the country. After the amendment in the Constitution, Army Chief Asim Munir has now become the Chief of Defense Forces (CDF). All three armies have come under the control of Asim Munir. The United Nations is also troubled by the unlimited power given to Munir. However, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk has expressed serious concern over his appointment. Volker Turk has said in a statement that Pakistan’s hastily adopted constitutional amendments seriously weaken the independence of the judiciary. According to Turk, this indicates the increasing influence of the military in Pakistan and the weakening of the civilian government. Because of this, it is not possible for any military chief to assassinate Imran.
