NHAI Safety Alert: Every year, millions of vehicles ply on national highways in India and with them, the risk of accidents also increases. Conditions like fog, sudden diversions, stray animals, road construction and black spots often become the major causes of accidents. But now this situation is going to change. On 02 December 2025, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and Reliance Jio took a historic step and announced the launch of a tele-communication based safety alert system which will completely transform the road safety standards of India.

Under this MoU, over 50 crore Jio users will receive instant alerts on their mobile phones, without the need for any new device or hardware. Just through Jio’s 4G-5G network, you will receive SMS, WhatsApp, and high-priority calls alerting you about a potential road accident, fog, diversion, or stray animals. This automated system will provide timely warnings to drivers, enabling them to take safe decisions. Experts believe this initiative will mark a new chapter in road safety infrastructure in India, potentially saving thousands of lives.

NHAI–Jio Partnership: A Big Step Forward in India’s Road Safety

Millions of vehicles ply India’s national highways daily, but with them comes the increased risk of accidents. Fog, low night visibility, sudden diversions, and stray animals all combine to create sometimes life-threatening situations. Addressing this problem, NHAI has partnered with Reliance Jio to develop an innovative solution. This partnership is launching a telecom-based safety alert system that will make travel safer than ever.

How will this safety alert system work?

Jio’s 4G-5G network will form the backbone of this system. As vehicles approach or travel on national highways, real-time safety alerts will be automatically sent via SMS, WhatsApp messages, and high-priority calls.

These alerts will indicate:

There is an accident prone area ahead

There is dense fog on the road

There is a diversion

There are animals on the road

Slippery conditions on the highway

Due to these warnings, the driver will be able to control the vehicle with prior alertness.
