KARACHI: Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Moin Khan has dismissed widespread rumours of his death, confirming through a video message on Tuesday that he is “perfectly fine and very healthy.” The 54-year-old had become the subject of false reports circulating across social media, claiming he had passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest.
The misinformation spread rapidly online, causing confusion and concern among cricket fans. In response, Moin Khan took to his official social media accounts to set the record straight. Posting a video on his Instagram story, the former cricketer strongly condemned the irresponsible behaviour of those spreading the rumours.
“I want to address a piece of news that has been circulating on social media since this morning, which is a clear example of irresponsibility,” he said. “To those who have posted to my health and my death, I want to assure all my fans and followers that, Alhamdulillah, I am very healthy and enjoying life.”
His video quickly went viral, as followers shared relief over his well-being and expressed disappointment at the spread of unfounded speculation. Many social media users criticised the individuals responsible for the false reports.
One user wrote, “Shame on all those people who are spreading fake news to former captain Moin Khan. Alhamdulillah, he is fit, fine and healthy.” Another commented, “Moin Khan is healthy; stay aware of fake news.”
The incident has once again highlighted the growing problem of misinformation on digital platforms, especially regarding public figures. Fans and analysts urged social media users to verify information before sharing it further, warning that such false claims can cause unnecessary panic.
For those unfamiliar with his career, Moin Khan is regarded as one of Pakistan’s finest wicketkeeper-batsmen. He represented the national team from 1990 to 2004 and played a key role in Pakistan’s historic 1992 Cricket World Cup victory. Over the course of his international career, he took more than 100 catches in Test cricket, scored over 3,000 runs in ODIs, and completed over 200 catches in limited-overs cricket. After retirement, he served as a coach and cricket administrator.
With the rumours now cleared, fans expressed relief that the celebrated cricketer remains in good health while urging greater responsibility in sharing online content.
