The Aadhaar Card a 12-digit unique identification number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India has become the most important document of identification. It is used as a digital identity proof for availing of a host of government subsidies and benefits. The Aadhar card contains your personal information such as your name residential address and biometric credentials. Because Aadhaar contains so much of your personal information it is essential to keep it secure at all times. Meanwhile it is to be noted that the Uttar Pradesh government has released a big and important statement related to Aadhaar cards. Residents of Uttar Pradesh must check this detail here. On Friday the Uttar Pradesh government instructed all departments to stop accepting Aadhaar cards as proof of birth or date of birth citing that it doesnt serve as a birth certificate. Issuing the order the Planning Departments special secretary Amit Singh Bansal emphasised that Aadhaar cards arent birth certificates and shouldnt be used as such. This change affects how individuals prove their age or birthdate in the state. Therefore considering the Aadhaar card as a birth-related document would be incorrect and misleading. The objective of this directive is to provide a clearer understanding of the documents intended purpose and to reduce misunderstandings; this is the result of communication from UIDAI regarding Aadhaar which clarified that Aadhaar does not qualify as an approved document for confirming date of birth. The letter sent by Bansal to the Honourable Additional Chief Secretary/Chief Secretary/Secretary Government of Uttar Pradesh states Kindly have the courtesy to take reference of the letter number 16013/4/2020-RO-LKO/5416 dated 31.10.2025 of the Deputy Director Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI 00003050) Regional Office Lucknow through which it has been informed that the Aadhaar card is not an approved proof of date of birth.
