The Sanchar Saathi app has recovered nearly 700,000 mobile phones since May 2023. This app helps prevent mobile theft and track lost phones.

The Sanchar Saathi app is a digital security app from the Department of Telecommunications (DOT), which has curbed the crime of mobile theft in India. The Sanchar Saathi app has achieved remarkable success in tracking and recovering lost or stolen mobile phones in India. In the past two years, nearly 700,000 mobile phones have been recovered and returned to their owners. Launched in March 2023, the app has performed exceptionally well.

How does the Sanchar Saathi app work?

The Sanchar Saathi app, or portal, is operated by the Department of Telecommunications (DOT). It is a completely secure app. DOT has also requested every citizen of India to install this app (Sanchar Saathi) on their mobile phones.

With the help of the Sanchar Saathi app, if your phone is stolen or lost, that mobile phone can be recovered or tracked.

When a stolen or lost mobile phone is reported on the app, its IMEI or details are recorded. If a thief attempts to use the same phone with a different SIM or a new number, the system alerts, blacklisting the phone and preventing misuse.

If any citizen purchases a new or second-hand mobile phone, this app will let them know whether the mobile phone is stolen or blacklisted.

How many mobile phones have been recovered through the Sanchar Saathi app so far?

The Sanchar Saathi app/portal was launched in May 2023 by the Ministry of Telecommunications, Government of India. In October 2025, approximately 50,000+ mobile phones were recovered. From 2023 to the present, over 700,000 mobile phones have been recovered, and stolen or lost phones have been returned to their owners.

The highest number of mobile phones recovered through the app have been in Telangana and Karnataka. The number of recovered mobile phones in both states is over 100,000. The app has also blocked 1.238 million WhatsApp accounts linked to cybercrime so far.

• Identification of all mobile connections issued in their name: Citizens can identify and manage all mobile connections issued in their name, ensuring no unauthorized access is being used.
• Know if your mobile phone is stolen: Check the genuineness (IMEI validity) of a new or used phone to avoid buying a stolen or blacklisted phone.
• Blocking your lost/stolen mobile handset: Lost or stolen mobile devices can be quickly blocked, traced, and recovered.
