Nowadays, Aadhaar cards are used everywhere. For any purpose, they serve as the primary document. But if you live in Uttar Pradesh, you should definitely read this news. Aadhaar cards will no longer be valid for one important purpose in Uttar Pradesh. The Uttar Pradesh government has clarified that Aadhaar cards will no longer be accepted as birth certificates or proof of date of birth.

This directive was issued by the Uttar Pradesh government after the state's Planning Department emphasized that the Aadhaar card does not contain any officially certified birth record, and therefore cannot be considered a valid document to prove a person's birth.

In an official order, Amit Singh Bansal, Special Secretary of the Planning Department, directed all state departments to stop accepting Aadhaar cards for birth verification purposes. The notice states that Aadhaar is primarily a proof of identity and address, not a document that records birth information.

The Maharashtra government also stated this regarding the Aadhaar Card.
The Maharashtra government has also stated that delayed birth and death certificates issued after August 11, 2023, based on the Aadhaar card, should be withdrawn. The Maharashtra government also stated that delayed birth certificates issued solely on the basis of the Aadhaar card (without a school certificate or any proof of date/place of birth) will also be reviewed.

The Uttar Pradesh government cited letter number 16013/4/2020-RO-LKO/5416, dated 31.10.2025, from the Deputy Director of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Regional Office, Lucknow, in its order.

This move comes as Uttar Pradesh is identifying illegal immigrants and intensifying border checks. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently ordered district administrations to set up temporary detention centers, specifically targeting foreign nationals staying illegally. Due to the open border with Nepal, there is more vigilance in UP.
