What causes hepatitis?
According to Dr. Arora, hepatitis can be caused by many things. The most common reason is exposure to viruses. Health conditions that damage your liver can cause hepatitis. Hepatitis can also be caused by exposure to alcohol, drugs and chemicals.
Hepatitis spreads in many ways. For example, hepatitis B can be spread through infected saliva and semen (unsafe sex). You can become infected with hepatitis B by having unprotected sex with someone who has this virus.
Chronic hepatitis B can be passed from parent to child during birth. Hepatitis C and D can be spread by contact with the blood of someone who has the virus.
