×The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Wednesday announced that it has launched an investigation into widespread flight disruptions at IndiGo, asking the airline to explain the reasons behind the operational breakdown and submit a mitigation strategy to reduce cancellations and delays going forward.
India’s largest airline faced a significant operational setback on Wednesday, cancelling over 100 flights across multiple airports and delaying several others, largely due to acute crew shortages. To stabilise schedules, the airline has introduced calibrated adjustments to its network for the next 48 hours in an effort to restore normal operations.
In its official statement, the regulator said it is reviewing the situation in consultation with IndiGo to identify steps necessary to minimise passenger inconvenience and avoid a repeat of such disruptions.
The DGCA stated: "IndiGo has been asked to report to DGCA, Headquarters, to present the facts leading to the current situation, along with plans to mitigate the ongoing delays & cancellations."
IndiGo’s Operational Summary Shared with Authorities
According to operational data submitted by IndiGo and shared by the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), the airline recorded 1,232 flight cancellations during the affected period. A significant portion of these cancellations stemmed from crew and Flight Duty Time Limit (FDTL) compliance, as well as airport, airspace, and ATC-related restrictions, many of which were outside the airline’s direct control.
IndiGo’s On-Time Performance (OTP) also dropped sharply, falling to 67.70% in November, compared to 84.1% in October.
The DGCA continues to review corrective measures and is expected to issue further directives based on the airline’s response and operational recovery.
