The average price of a Christmas dinner this year is £52.19 for roughly six people, but there are ways you can score a suitable festive feast for £20 less if you opt for a cheaper supermarket. The experts at NetVoucherCodes have analysed a number of Britain's top supermarkets to determine which is the cheapest for Christmas dinner this year.

They found that shopping for your Christmas meal at Aldi will set you back just £31.73. For those shopping at the budget supermarket, a 2.5kg turkey crown costs just £17.19 this year, while pigs in blankets are just £2.19. The average Christmas dinner has increased in price by 5.52%; however, Aldi proves an exception to this, coming in cheaper than it did last year, when a festive dinner cost £32.04.

Aldi was closely followed by Lidl, where a classic Christmas roast costs £33.22, while at Asda, the price increases slightly to £39.73.

On the other end of the spectrum, the most expensive supermarket is, perhaps unsurprisingly, Marks & Spencer, where you'll be spending a whopping £80.95 on your Christmas food.

To get the most bang for your buck, the experts recommend opting to get your main ingredients from one of the more budget-friendly shops, and then topping up on any extras in the more expensive choices.

Additionally, forgoing meat and opting for a vegetarian main can also help keep costs down, as many vegetarian mains have dropped in price since last year, while meat prices have risen.
