Thiruvananthapuram: On Wednesday, President Droupadi Murmu emphasized that self-reliance is crucial for enhancing national security. She expressed her belief that the Indian Navy will persist in advancing indigenous technologies, contributing to India's aspiration of becoming a 'Viksit Bharat'.
During her speech at a naval operational demonstration in Kerala, Murmu praised the Navy for its combat readiness and professionalism in safeguarding India's maritime interests.
The Indian Navy exhibited its maritime capabilities and multi-domain combat skills through an operational display off the coast of Kerala at Shangumugham Beach.
This event was part of the Navy Day celebrations, where a total of nineteen major warships were showcased, including the indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant, one submarine, four fast intervention boats, and 32 aircraft, which comprised fighter jets, surveillance planes, and helicopters, as noted by a senior naval officer.
Among the advanced naval platforms displayed were the indigenous frontline frigate INS Udaygiri and other significant aircraft.
In her remarks, Murmu reiterated that "self-reliance strengthens national security".
She expressed confidence in the Indian Navy's ongoing development of indigenous technology, which is vital for India's journey towards becoming a Viksit Bharat.
Murmu called upon the naval forces and all stakeholders to collaborate in safeguarding the seas.
"We must collectively reaffirm our commitment to protect our maritime territories, empower shipbuilders, support sailors, and foster the maritime spirit that has always characterized our great civilization," she stated.
She concluded her address by wishing for the Indian Navy to be "always victorious".
Earlier, Murmu was welcomed by Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi at the airport's technical area.
She received a guard of honor and a ceremonial gun salute from the flagship destroyer, INS Kolkata.
The exhibition provided the public with a unique chance to observe various aspects of the Navy's multi-domain operations and enhance their maritime awareness, according to officials.
The event highlighted the Navy's impressive combat capabilities, technological advancements, and operational readiness, showcasing the nation's growing maritime strength and self-reliance.
As INS Vikrant sailed across the horizon, it was met with a cascade of applause, while a MiG-29 aircraft took off from its deck.
The Navy also displayed its advanced frontline frigates and missile corvettes, including the Kolkata-class destroyer INS Kolkata, INS Imphal, and the Nilgiri-class frigate INS Udaygiri.
Among the aircraft was the MH-60R, which released flares into the sky to salute the president, the supreme commander of the armed forces.
Additionally, four Dornier aircraft performed a 'bomb burst' formation in the sky.
A simulated anti-piracy and hostage rescue operation was also conducted, featuring the elite Marine Commandos (MARCOS) of the Navy boarding a vessel at sea.
