2nd ODI: South Africa complete mammoth 359-run chase against India

The South African cricket team beat India in the 2nd ODI of the three-match series in Raipur on Wednesday.

Batting first, India scored 358/5 in 50 overs. Virat Kohli and Ruturaj Gaikwad hammered centuries.

In response, the Proteas chased down a 359-run target. Aiden Markram hit 110 with the likes of Matthew Breetzke and Dewald Brevis playing powerful knocks.

The series is now 1-1.


Kohli, Gaikwad tons floor the Proteas

India were reduced to 62/2 when Kohli was joined by Gaikwad in the 10th over.

The two complemented each other well and put on 195 runs for the 3rd wicket.

Gaikwad got to his ton first and perished right after. Kohli then completed his century and perished.

It was skipper KL Rahul's unbeaten 43-ball 66 which helped India get to 358 in the end.


Marco Jansen pick of the Proteas bowlers

South African pacer Marco Jansen bowled well and ended with 2/63. He dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal and centurion Gaikwad. With this effort, Jansen raced to 49 wickets from 31 matches at 32.67.


Ruturaj Gaikwad hammers his maiden ODI century

The versatile Gaikwad slammed his maiden century in ODIs.

According to Cricbuzz, Gaikwad now has the second-fastest ton for India against South Africa in ODI cricket (77 balls). He is only behind former batter Yusuf Pathan, who reached the landmark off 68 balls in Centurion in 2011.

KL Rahul smashes his 20th ODI half-century

Rahul scored 66* from 43 balls with the help of six fours and two sixes.

Earlier, he scored a match-winning 60 in the series opener in Ranchi.

In 90 ODIs, the Indian batter now has 3,218 runs at an average of 49.50 (SR: 89.48).

Overall, Rahul raced to his 20th half-century in ODI cricket. His tally also includes seven tons.

SA lost the wicket of Quinton de Kock before Markram and Bavuma added 101 runs.

Bavuma departed for 46 in the 21st over as Breetzke came in. Alongside Markram, the pair added 70 runs.

Markram perished shortly after his ton before the dangerous Brevis walked in and a 92-run stand followed.

India did dismiss both Brevis and Breetzke but Corbin Bosch's 26* helped them.

Arshdeep Singh claimed 2/54 from his 10 overs. Harshit Rana managed 1/70. Prasidh Krishna was costly, conceding 2/82 from 8.2 overs. He picked two wickets. Spinner Kuldeep clocked 1/78 from his 10 overs.

Markram's knock of 110 was laced with 10 fours and 4 sixes. In 85 ODIs (81 innings),

Markram now owns 2,707 runs at an average of 37.59. This was his 4th ODI hundred. He also owns 14 fifties.

As per ESPNcricinfo, Markram has amassed 447 runs from 18 matches at 27.93. This was his maiden century against India (50s: 1).


Brevis shines with 54 versus India

Brevis managed 54 runs from 34 balls. He struck at 158.82. He hit five sixes and a four.
