Emma Raducanu has disclosed the reason she frequently goes unnoticed whilst travelling on London's underground system, having recently debuted a fresh haircut. With December upon us and tennis entering its quieter period, Raducanu will be seeking ways to stay occupied before her return to competitive action in 2026. Nevertheless, one aspect that appears set to continue throughout the forthcoming months are her journeys to and from central London, with the 23-year-old recently discussing her enjoyment of these commutes and how seldom she gets spotted.

Raducanu explained: "I've been part of rush hour every day, which has also been an experience. But it's like my switch off. As soon as I get on the South Western (Railway) to Waterloo, I'm just like, my day is done now. Sometimes people recognise me. You know what's actually funny, in rush hour, people are so locked into their worlds, they are all so zoned out, they're not really paying attention. They're probably not expecting to see me either. I have my hood up or whatever, but they're just so focused and absorbed in their own worlds. It's all so crazy. Like the haste in which everyone's walking around.

Raducanu continued: "It's like everyone's on a mission. You have to get the elbows out, just to get through. I'm like, okay, if people see me on the tube, it's not a bad thing. If people recognise me, and they want to come up to me, then that's great, but I don't necessarily feel like I'm hiding from anything anymore."

Another possible explanation for office workers failing to spot Raducanu could be her striking new appearance that she revealed on Instagram. Last Wednesday, Italian hairstylist Nicola Noviello shared Raducanu's refreshed look on his social media platform. His post was captioned: "Italian hands, British elegance. A fresh new look for Emma Raducanu, grazie for trusting me with your style!".

Raducanu subsequently replied through her own Instagram profile: "You're the best best."

Despite early departures in her most recent two tournaments - including one withdrawal due to injury - 2025 has proved remarkable for Raducanu. A foot problem also forced her to withdraw from two exhibition matches in America. Nevertheless, this can be viewed as her strongest campaign since bursting onto the tennis circuit with her sensational victory at the 2021 US Open.

She presently holds 29th position in the WTA rankings with a 28-22 win-loss record this season. Raducanu's celebrity status has certainly grown this year, with her net worth estimated at no less than £13.5million.
