The Indian cricket team has been announced for the upcoming T20 series against South Africa. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a 15-member squad for the five-match T20 series during the second ODI match being played between India and South Africa in Raipur.

Shubman Gill’s return

The most special thing in this squad is that both Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya, who were out of the team for a long time due to injury, have returned. Gill has been made the vice-captain of the team. However, his participation in the series will completely depend on his fitness. At the same time, a major change from this squad is the decision to drop Rinku Singh, who will no longer be a part of the team in this series.

The team selection for the T20 series took place on Wednesday, 3 December in Raipur. The selection of players was discussed in detail in the selection committee meeting. Most of the attention was on whether Shubman Gill, who has been suffering from injury for some time, will be included in the team or not. Gill suffered a neck injury during the first Test match against South Africa, due to which he had to stay out of the first Test series and then the ODI series. Since then, Gill was going through a complete recovery and rehabilitation process.

Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma included in the team

Suryakumar Yadav, Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Verma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dubey, Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma have been included as batsmen in this time’s T20 squad. Axar Patel, Varun Chakraborty, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana and Washington Sundar have been included in the team as all-rounder and spin options. Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh have been kept in the fast bowling department.

What is especially noteworthy is that Gill’s return has brought a lot of enthusiasm and strength to the team, because his experience and backup skills can prove to be decisive for the Indian team. The return of Hardik Pandya also further strengthens the all-round options of the team. The selectors have taken the decision to exclude Rinku Singh from a strategic point of view, so that other fit and in-form players can be given a chance.
