Gorakhpur Junction: There is no indication that the issues facing train passengers at Gorakhpur Junction will go away. A significant safety breach happened on Wednesday when two trains arrived on platforms three and four at the same time, creating a scenario akin to a stampede. In order to catch their trains, scores of people were forced to risk their lives by jumping across the railway lines due to the subsequent commotion, which caused the eastern foot overbridge (FOB) to get clogged for around thirty minutes.

Panic and Overcrowding on the Bridge

When the Maurya Express reached platform four at 4:40 p.m., the event took place. The Darbhanga-Delhi Clone Special Express (Train No. 02569) reached the nearby platform three as passengers started getting out and leaving by the eastern FOB.

A huge congestion resulted from the abrupt convergence of persons coming and exiting. There was no more standing space on the bridge, according to travelers Manoj Kumar, Chanchal, and Shivendra Kumar. People were trapped where they were as the throng grew rapidly. The elderly, women, and children found the situation upsetting, and many of them were afraid of suffocating in the crush.

Travelers Leap onto Tracks

Numerous People Hurt Desperation overcame the whole impasse on the FOB. Numerous travelers descended onto the railroad tracks to catch the Clone Express, which was headed for Delhi. During the scramble, some people allegedly suffered injuries. For thirty minutes, there was anarchy, which only subsided when the Clone Express left at 5:08 p.m.

Confusion Is Increased by Display Board Malfunction

On platforms three and four, a deceptive electronic display board added to the confusion. The Gorakhpur-Banaras Intercity left around 4:15 p.m., although the board still showed its information.

It was impossible for passengers to tell which trains had already gone, which were motionless, and which had just arrived. Such technological issues have been a common cause of problems at the station, according to commuters.

Construction delays and infrastructure problems The main center foot overbridge’s removal seems to be the primary cause of the overcrowding problem. Due to this, the whole passenger load has been transferred to the eastern FOB, which is now overloaded.

In addition, travelers complained about the new FOB’s development moving slowly. According to observations, even in five years, the job may not be finished at the present rate. There are increasing worries that a serious disaster might occur at any moment due to the railway administration’s lack of care.

Severe Train Delays Persist Beyond the commotion at the station, travelers’ situation has become worse due to a breakdown in timeliness.

The Gorakhpur-LTT Express (Train No. 2014) left around four and a half hours behind schedule. Arriving around 10 p.m., passengers had to wait in the bitter cold until the train came at 3 a.m.

Clone Express: Two and a half hours behind schedule (Train No. 02564).

Train No. 02570, the New Delhi-Darbhanga Express, is five hours behind schedule.

Passengers continue to be in continual anxiety as regular trains slow down and cancellations increase.
