Kolkata: Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Thursday suspended West Bengal MLA Humayun Kabir. He had claimed to inaugurate the Babri Masjid in the state's Murshidabad district on December 6. According to Kolkata Mayor and TMC leader Firhad Hakim, MLA Kabir had been warned earlier about his statements and hence, raising questions over his intentions, the party has suspended him.

Kolkata Mayor and Minister of State said, "We saw that one of our MLAs from Murshidabad suddenly announced that he will build Babri Masjid. Why suddenly Babri Masjid? We had already warned him. Our party is suspending MLA Humayun Kabir. He said - Why only December 6? Why did Humayun Kabir not choose any other name? He could have built a school or college in Murshidabad."

The Mayor said, "We feel that this is BJP's policy to divide Bengal on religious issue. BJP believes in divisive politics. BJP has played this kind of card before the elections. I think Humayun Kabir has got trapped in this divisive politics.

Let us tell you, "Kabir had earlier revealed his plan to lay the foundation of Babri Masjid at Beldanga in Murshidabad district on December 6. He had earlier created a controversy by announcing that the project would take three years to complete and many Muslim leaders would participate in it. This statement drew a sharp reaction from the BJP, with leaders saying - "No mosque will be built in the name of Babar." BJP leader Dilip Ghosh said, “Anyone can build a temple or mosque on their land, but no mosque will be built in the name of Babar in India. The Hindu community resisted him for 450 years, destroyed his structures and later built the Ram temple. Babur was an invader; Nothing will be built here in his name.”
