Zoho CEO Sridhar Vembu has supported a growing global shift towards skills-first hiring and has made it clear that he does not care about college degrees if employment opportunities at Zoho Corp. The chief scientist urged parents to stop putting pressure on their children. Sridhar Vembu said if a job is being posted with a requirement in Zoho, then it gets flagged to remove that component from the application process.
“At Zoho, no job requires a college degree and if some manager posts a job that requires a degree, they get a polite message from HR to remove the degree requirement!” said Vembu. He also added that at Zoho's Tenkasi, Vembu works with a technical team whose median age is 19 so he has to keep up with their energy.
He highlighted his experience working with young employees, saying, “In Tenkasi, I closely work with a technical team whose median age is 19. Their energy and can-do spirit is infectious. I have to work hard to keep up with them!”

The conversation started when a post detailed a new hiring approach by US-based firm Palantir. The firm invited high school graduates to work directly on significant technology and national security projects, bypassing the traditional college track. According to the post, five hundred teens applied, twenty-two were selected, and some even turned down Ivy League admissions or full-ride scholarships.

Sridhar Vembu responded to the post and highlighted a "cultural shift", especially among young people seeking work without a degree. The Zoho chief insisted that this would allow young men and women to “stand on their own feet, without having to incur heavy debt to get a degree and paying their own way.”
"This is the real 'youth power', enabling young men and women to stand on their own feet, without having to incur heavy debt to get a degree and paying their own way," he said, highlighting huge loans taken by Indian parents for higher education in America for their children.
