250 flights canceled since morning; DGCA summons IndiGo airline officials
04 Dec 2025

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has summoned IndiGo officials for a meeting as the airline continued facing operational disruptions for the third consecutive day.

The disruptions have led to over 250 flight cancelations and delays across India on Thursday.

These included the canceling of 33 flights from Delhi, 68 from Hyderabad, 85 from Mumbai, and 73 from Bengaluru.

IndiGo's on-time performance plummets amid disruptions
Performance drop

According to reports, IndiGo is battling a shortage of pilots and crew since the implementation of new flight duty-time limitation (FDTL) norms last month.

These norms increased the weekly rest period to 48 hours, extended night hours, and limited the number of night landings to only two, as opposed to six previously.

On Wednesday, the airline's on-time performance (OTP) dropped to 19.7%, down from 35% a day earlier. The OTP is a key measure of an airline's punctuality and efficiency.

In addition to the new FDTL norms, a hurried Airbus A320 software patch affected the airline's operations.

Airbus mandated the implementation of software flex across half of its operational A320 jetliner family fleet after 15 passengers were injured on a JetBlue-operated Airbus A320 flight from Mexico owing to an emergency landing caused by a precipitous drop in altitude.

Despite the airline's efforts to manage the tighter crew issues, the situation escalated with the obligatory Airbus software patch, according to HT.

Acknowledging the situation, IndiGo said it is making "calibrated adjustments" to its schedules over the next 48 hours.

The airline also said it is working hard to minimize customer inconvenience and stabilize operations.

Affected passengers are being offered alternate travel arrangements or refunds as necessary.

The airline operates around 2,200-2,300 flights daily to over 90 domestic and 45 international destinations.

As of December 2, IndiGo had a fleet of 416 aircraft, with 366 in operation and 50 grounded
