NITI Aayog to unveil roadmap for building quantum-powered Indian economy

NITI Aayog is set to launch its 'Roadmap for Transforming India into a leading Quantum Powered Economy' today at the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT-Hyderabad) campus in Gachibowli.

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy will be releasing the report and unveiling a dedicated Quantum Computing Policy for Telangana.

The event will also witness a roundtable discussion between NITI Aayog, IIIT-H, industry leaders, technologists, innovators, and researchers on various use cases of quantum technology.

Collaboration focus


NITI Aayog CEO B.V.R. Subrahmanyam stressed the importance of collaboration between government, industry, and academia to unlock the potential of quantum computing.

He said, "By forging deep collaboration between government, industry, and academia, and by investing in indigenous capabilities, we can unlock the true potential of quantum computing."

The statement highlights a vision for a secure and inclusive future through this advanced technology.

Earlier this year, NITI Aayog and the Data Security Council of India had launched a primer on Quantum Computing: National Security Implications & Strategic Preparedness.

The report highlighted the potential of quantum technologies in securing critical infrastructure and strengthening defense capabilities.

It also stressed that leadership in this domain would require strong policy frameworks, cutting-edge research, talent development, and large-scale deployment.


Call for task force and flexible R&D funding
Recommendations


The report from NITI Aayog recommended the establishment of a task force to monitor global quantum developments and access flexible R&D funding.

It said, "India's quantum security strategy must integrate technology monitoring, research flexibility, and supply chain security while leveraging global partnerships and domestic innovation."

The statement emphasizes a proactive approach to ensure national security in the quantum era.
