Ja Morant's future with the Memphis Grizzlies is uncertain, with NBA management questioning his health, production, and attitude. An NBA executive believes Ja Morant is a "pain in the a**, injury-prone, and not good anymore." Additionally, as per ESPN, many around the league compare him to John Wall and Derrick Rose.
They also raised worries about his injuries, diminishing statistics, and large contract. Meanwhile, as trade rumors circulate, his current troubles have elevated him to the league's top list of prospective trade targets.
Fans reacted as NBA executive question Ja Morant’s alleged declining form
A trio of recent All-Star point guards has recently been thrown together in discussions among NBA head offices. Charlotte's LaMelo Ball, Memphis' Ja Morant, and Atlanta's Trae Young all appear to be in a state of uncertainty with the clubs for whom they have been the faces since entering the league. Rival teams are speculating that Ball, Morant, and Young will be available before the February 5 trade deadline.
Additionally, recently, one NBA executive has said that Morant is:
“The combination of pain in the a*s, injury prone, not that good anymore and big contract is a bad one.."
He continued:
“But some talent evaluators around the league believe that his best years have already passed. Those skeptics compare Morant to Derrick Rose and John Wall -- smaller guards who relied heavily on spectacular athleticism that was sapped by injuries, shortening their stints as superstars..”
The post gradually went viral on X. Meanwhile, this comment drew attention of the fans who rushed to the comment section of the X post to express their opinion on the whole thing. Most X users criticized Morant as one wrote, “Ja's fall-off needs to be studied", while another one stated, “John Wall and D Rose catching strays,” Furthermore, one X user stated, “John Wall and Rose were at least great players. Ja is just a**..."
However, not everyone was against him. Many fans supported him as one X user wrote, “It’s disrespectful to compare his situation to two guys who worked hard and were never in trouble. He’s railroaded his own career…” Another one said, “Ja morant is better then d rose ever was lets stop this. Show me d rose dropping 50 against a dpoy in the playoffs in year 2..” One even questions, “Ja has never had a catastrophic injury, what is this dude talking about?”
Ja Morant has been struggling with injuries, poor form, and off-court issues in Memphis
Early in his professional career, Memphis’ Ja Morant was a standout. He was selected Rookie of the Year in 2019-20. Morant also made back-to-back all-star appearances in 2021-22 and 2022-23.
However, Morant's performance has declined since then. This season, he averages 17.9 points, his lowest since his rookie year, while shooting a career low 35.9% from the field and 16.7% from three. Memphis is 4-8 with Morant in the lineup, and he has been out since November 15 with a calf strain.
He has also clashed with coach Tuomas Iisalo and drawn criticism off the court, including a verbal altercation with Klay Thompson. Off-court troubles and injuries have wrecked his last three NBA seasons. Meanwhile, Mirant himself hasn't said anything about it as of yet.
