Punjab News: The youth who were once in the quagmire of drugs are today ready to become the builders of Punjab’s bright future! This is not a dream, but the ground reality of the Punjab Government’s ambitious campaign ‘War on Drugs’. The government of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann ji has not only cracked down on drug smugglers but has also paved the way for respect and self-employment for our youth who have given up drug addiction. Bad times have come for drug sellers in Punjab. On the direct and strict orders of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the decisive fight against drugs in the state ‘Yudh Nashon Virudh’ has completed 9 months and is showing great results. From March 1, 2025 till now, Punjab Police has taken record action, registered 26,256 cases and arrested 38,687 drug smugglers. During this period, a huge amount of narcotics including more than 1714 kg of heroin has been seized. These figures show that the government adheres to the policy of zero tolerance for drugs and is fully prepared to end the drug trap.
Along with tough action, the government is working on a twin strategy by linking reforms and employment. In this series, the District Administration of Ludhiana, with the help of Dairy Development and Health Department, has started a special 10-day skill training program at the Government Rehabilitation Center in Jagraon. The aim of this initiative is to provide solid earning opportunities to the youth undergoing drug de-addiction treatment so that they do not get trapped back in the quagmire of drug addiction for money. Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain described this initiative as a big and humane step towards holistic rehabilitation. He clearly said, “We are making sure that whoever has defeated the drug addiction does not slip back into drug addiction due to poverty or lack of work.” With this thinking, Deputy Director of Dairy Development Department Surinder Singh gave practical training to the youth on dairy farming (animal husbandry) and works on the inaugural day.
Officials believe these skills will help recovering people start their own jobs and become financially independent, thereby ensuring their recovery. After completion of the training, those who are capable will also be given loan and financial assistance from banks under government schemes to set up small dairy units. This initiative is being run under the supervision of special officers like Civil Surgeon Dr. Ramandeep Kaur, Lead District Manager Gurdev Singh Kang, and Center Incharge Dr. Vivek Goyal. The Punjab Government believes that only by teaching skills can a new opportunity be created for reform. This program is not limited to just teaching skills, but it also gives the youth the capital of self-confidence, so that they can return to the mainstream of society with respect. When they have a solid job in hand, they do not have to turn to any compulsion or addiction. In this way, this initiative not only improves their lives, but also breaks the entire vicious cycle of drug addiction and gives them a new identity.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann Ji, the Punjab Government has shown that it is determined. The government has not only taken strict action against drug peddlers, but has also shown sensitivity towards the youth who have fallen prey to drugs. It is the responsibility of the government to give a secure future to its children, and realizing this responsibility, it has fought a decisive battle to save them from drug addiction and give them the best opportunities to stand on their feet. The future of the next generation of Punjab is being secured, when the government takes strict action against the drug dealers (like more than 38 thousand smugglers have been arrested) and at the same time, puts our youth on their feet by teaching them skills, providing them work and a life of dignity, then it is a big and good thing for the entire society. This effort does not stop at just ending one problem, but it is a strong beginning to make Punjab a beautiful and prosperous Punjab again.
