This report comes four years after Scarlett Johansson’s farewell to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, highlighting a significant move of the star from the world of Marvel into the darker one of DC’s Gotham City. Scarlett Johansson To Join The Batman 2

The report by Variety revealed that Scarlett Johansson is just one step away from finalising her character in the movie. If confirmed, her casting would give fresh momentum to the long-delayed project, which is expected to finally begin filming next year. Before stepping into Reeves’ Gotham, Johansson will reportedly wrap work on The Exorcist, which she signed onto only last week.

Scarlett Johansson has had a very successful stint at Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) was as Natasha Romanoff, and recent performance in Jurassic World: Rebirth a pleasing global audience. Besides that, she also took the initiative to go behind the camera and shoot her first feature, Eleanor the Great, a soft drama starring June Squibb, earlier this year.

What got even more tongues wagging was the growing rumours that Zoe Kravitz might not reprise her role as Selina Kyle/Catwoman in the sequel. As of now, no official announcement has been made, but several reports suggest that the character will not be returning hence, athough there is no information as to whether she would take over as Catwoman or play a completely different character. DC Studios appears to be very tight-lipped about it.

The screenplay of The Batman Part II was penned by Reeves and Mattson Tomlin. The very prospect of Johansson playing a part in the film has already invigorated the interaction of both worlds’ fan bases, and fans are looking forward to it more considering her solid record in leading major films. A Variety first broke the fire and her negotiation talks as early but promising.

The path to the second film has been a long and winding one. It was officially greenlighted by Warner Bros. at CinemaCon in 2022; however, production delays have persisted throughout 2023 and 2024. Consequently, the release date has been changed several times- from a first target of October 2025 to October 2026, and now to October 1, 2027.

Bruce Wayne/Batman will be played again by Robert Pattinson, with Reeves directing once more.
