The love story of Sushma and Swaraj Kaushal is like a film story.

Swaraj Kaushal, former Governor of Mizoram and husband of late former Union Minister Sushma Swaraj, is no more. He died at the age of 73. Daughter and BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj shared the information about her father's demise on social media. Bansuri wrote in her post, father's legacy and blessings will remain the basis of life's journey. Swaraj Kaushal holds the record of becoming the youngest Governor of the country. Took this post at the age of just 37.

As soon as Swaraj Kaushal is mentioned, the discussion about Sushma Swaraj starts. Both of them got married on July 13, 1975, but this marriage was not easy. Both their families had objections to the marriage, but both decided to spend their lives with each other. Sushma adopted her husband Swaraj's name as her surname.

How did you meet?

Swaraj Kaushal was born on 12 July 1952 in Solan, then Punjab (presently Himachal Pradesh). He received his primary education there and went to Chandigarh for higher education. Took BA degree from DAV Chandigarh and after doing LLB from Punjab University, moved to Delhi. Both of them first met while studying law in Delhi.

The interesting thing was that both were supporters of different ideologies. Sushma Swaraj was associated with RSS and Swaraj Kaushal believed in socialist ideology. Both of them became friends during their studies. The friendship deepened with time.

Fellow Supreme Court lawyers worked together as part of the team of lawyers that fought the George Fernandes case during the Emergency during the Indira Gandhi regime. It is claimed that during this time their friendship started turning into love and the matter reached the stage of marriage.

When the matter of marriage was put before the family, there was opposition to it in both the houses. Especially Sushma Swaraj's father had objections to this relationship. Sushma Swaraj's father was associated with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He was disciplined and high-minded. He refused to accept their relationship.

Both of them got married amidst opposition from their family members. Sushma added her husband Swaraj's name to her name and thus she became Sushma Swaraj. After some time of marriage, their father along with their family members also approved this relationship and the love story proved to be like a film love story.
