Demon Slayer star Zach Aguilar has shared his hopes for a possible live-action remake of the smash-hit Japanese anime series.
Aguilar voices the hero Tanjiro Kamado in the English dub of the series, a young trainee demon slayer from a humble family who embarks on a dangerous quest to cure his sister when she's horrifically transformed into a demon.
The animated phenomenon has been dominating the big screen this year with the release of the new film, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Movie: Infinity Castle.
Not only has it become the highest-grossing Japanese film of all time, it is currently the fifth highest grossing film of 2025 with a staggering $780 million at the global box office, beating out hits such as Superman, F1 and How to Train Your Dragon.
In an exclusive conversation with Reach, lead actor Aguilar admits the level of success for the series has been "surreal".
Recalling the film's premiere at the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, he shared: "The energy in that room, it was just ecstatic. Everybody laughed, everybody cried. Everyone was just glued to their seats watching the movie.
"For me that felt like a once in a lifetime event. I just I can't believe I lived that night."
Despite the franchise's massive success, Aguilar reveals he still has a degree of "anonymity" as a voice actor despite being a "superstar" at fan conventions.
"I don't really have a desire to be like famous or like well-known or anything like that," he added.
"I think all I want to do in my life is just make really good stuff that I'm personally proud of and things that I can show to my friends and family. It is nice to kind of have the Hannah Montana thing. You kind of get the best of both."
With Demon Slayer fast-becoming one of the biggest anime shows of all time, joining the ranks of other hits such as Pokemon and One Piece, fans could eventually look forward to a live-action version of the epic fantasy series.
A number of anime franchises have been adapted to live-action recent years, some of the most notable being Netflix's takes on Death Note, Cowboy Bebop and One Piece.
According to a report from Screen Time in September, Netflix is allegedly "fast-tracking" a live-action adaptation, though the streaming service has yet to make any official announcements.
While Aguilar is excited by the possibility, there are a lot of factors to consider to ensure Demon Slayer's growing fanbase are satisfied.
"It's really interesting, I think it could [happen]," he said. "It's kind of weird, my own personal thoughts on live-action adaptation, I think it's cool because maybe it reaches an audience who wouldn't necessarily watch animation. I know a lot of people like that... my parents watch anime because I'm in it, but otherwise they wouldn't watch anime at all.
"I think I could see it being adapted, for sure, as long as they do it all right and do everything authentically and the casting... Just remember the heart and soul of Demon Slayer and where it takes place."
While the world of Demon Slayer is full of magic and monsters, it is still very much set in Japan and contains frequent references to early 20th century history. "It has a lot of Japanese themes," Aguilar continued. "So I think it would be cool to add that and have the right people behind it, the right producers and directors making sure everything is the way it's supposed to be.
"Maybe having the whole team from Demon Slayer involved with it, I think that's super important too. I've been enjoying the live-action One Piece, it's super well-done, and that's because [creator Eiichiro] Oda was also a part of that creation process. I think that's important, if it does happen."
Demon Slayer is available to stream on Netflix and Crunchyroll.
