The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has planned on extending the stint of Mohammad Ashraful as batting coach for the senior men's side. The former middle-order batter had initially been appointed only for Bangladesh's home series against Ireland.

It is understood that he had been brought in with the intention of only serving up until the end of the Tests and T20Is against the Irish. However, it is now being brought to light that he will continue in the position. BCB head of cricket operations Nazmul Abedeen Fahim spoke positively on Ashraful's hiring in a full-time role, further attributing the veteran batter's potential in a coaching role with the senior side.

"Ashraful will continue as our batting coach. Well, it's his early days as a coach, but I've been hearing him talk for a long time. He talks on TV, says this and that, and I also talk to him. I think he has a lot of potential as a coach. Understanding batting is one thing, coaching is another. The characteristics needed for coaching are in him. He has a real interest in it. He's not coming here just to make or secure a career. He enjoys it and he is learning very fast. He is doing well," stated Nazmul, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

BCB will be using their coaches as and wherever required

Nazmul shed light on the new approach the board will be implementing with respect to coaches from now onwards. According to the fresh policy adopted, each coach will be used across different domains with different teams as and when the need arises.

"Our policy now will be that no matter who the coach is, whether a foreign coach of the national team or a local coach, we will use them in different roles. Sometimes with the national team, sometimes with the A team, sometimes with High Performance, depending on availability and what we need at that time," he added.

Nazmul also confirmed to the aforementioned source that Mohammad Salahuddin will stay as senior assistant coach after the board did not accept his resignation. As per the latest developments, it is being known that Salahuddin later changed his mind.

Bangladesh's head coach Phil Simmons will hold a brief training camp with the T20I unit at the Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium starting December 6. Both Ashraful and Salahuddin will be expected to show up.
