Just like food items or medicines have an expiry date, LPG cylinders also have a fixed expiry date. The only difference is that most people don't notice it. An expired cylinder should never be used.

By looking at the date on your home cylinder, you can immediately determine whether it's safe or not. The expiry date is written on the cylinder itself, not on a label. You've often seen codes like A-27, B-28, C-29, or D-30 on the bottom or top of the cylinder.

These codes indicate their expiration date. They're easy to understand. The letters in these codes indicate a range of months. A stands for January to March, B for April to June, C for July to September, and D for October to December. Simply looking at the letters tells you which quarter the cylinder covers.

This method is followed consistently across the country, making it easy for customers to identify. Now comes the number written alongside the letter. This number indicates the year in which the cylinder expires. For example, if you see D-30 written on it, the cylinder will expire between October and December 2030.

After this date, it's considered unsafe to use and should be replaced immediately. Similarly, if you see B-28 written on a cylinder, it means its validity is from April to June 2028.

This method is quite simple and can be understood by every consumer at home. Therefore, when using a cylinder, it's important to pay attention to these things first. If the expiry date has passed or is very near, order a new cylinder.
