New Delhi: The country’s largest airline Indigo is facing a major operational crisis, due to which hundreds of flights have been canceled since Tuesday. The situation became even more serious on Friday when the airline announced cancellation of all its flights from Delhi airport till midnight and from Mumbai airport till 6 pm. Due to this decision, lakhs of passengers are stuck at the airports and there is a lot of anger among them.

According to the information, this crisis has arisen due to shortage of pilots and other internal operation challenges. Videos of long queues at airports and helplessness of passengers are going viral on social media. In a video, a father was seen asking for sanitary pads for his daughter, but the staff refused to help.

Opposition targets government

Politics has also started on this matter. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi blamed the government’s policies on social media platform X. they wrote:

Indigo’s ‘Plan B’ for refund and rebooking

Amidst the huge anger among the passengers, Indigo has assured that the passengers whose flights have been canceled are entitled to a full refund. If passengers wish, they can book their seats on another available flight without any additional charges.

For this, the airline has given the option of ‘Plan B’ on its website. Travelers can use:

  • You can select another available flight.
  • You can initiate the refund process without any additional charges.

According to the airline, the amount is usually credited back to the original payment method within 7 working days once the refund is processed. Passengers who have booked tickets through travel agents will have to contact the concerned agency for refund.

DGCA Rules: What are your rights?

Passengers also get certain rights under the rules of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). These rules apply when the airline fails to inform passengers of a flight cancellation at least 2 weeks in advance.

The compensation structure is as follows:

  • For flights up to 1 hour: Rs 5,000 (or basic fare + fuel charges, whichever is lower).
  • For flights between 1 and 2 hours: Rs 7,500 (or basic fare + fuel charges, whichever is lower).
  • For flights more than 2 hours: Rs 10,000 (or basic fare + fuel charges, whichever is lower).

If your flight is delayed by more than 6 hours or is cancelled, you can decline an alternative flight and ask for a full refund. If your claim is rejected, you can file a complaint through the AirSewa portal or app.
