NHAI signs MoU with Reliance Jio: Big news for people traveling on national highways. NHAI has partnered with Reliance Jio to launch a mobile-based safety alert system. Through this system, over 500 million Jio users will receive warnings about accident-prone spots, fog, stray animal areas, and sudden diversions while traveling on highways. Alerts will be sent via SMS, WhatsApp, and high-priority calls. Initially, this system will be implemented on a few highways as a pilot project.

What will change with the agreement between NHAI and Jio?
The primary objective of the MoU between NHAI and Reliance Jio is to strengthen highway safety. Jio's extensive network will provide drivers with real-time alerts, potentially reducing the risk of accidents. The system will be fully automated and will send relevant information to Jio users based on their location on the highway. NHAI says this initiative will set a new standard for the use of technology in road safety.

How the Mobile-Based Safety Alert System Will Work
This system is based on Jio's 4G and 5G networks, so no new roadside hardware will be required. Alerts will be sent to users along the highway via SMS, WhatsApp, and high-priority calls based on their route. Pre-emptive information about accident-prone areas, foggy patches, stray animal zones, and emergency diversions will help drivers take precautions. This is also expected to strengthen highway traffic management.

The system will be integrated with the Rajmargyatra app and helpline 1033.
NHAI stated that the safety alert system will be integrated with the Rajmargyatra mobile app and emergency helpline 1033 in a phased manner. This will provide travelers with real-time road conditions, emergency support, and alerts on a single platform. The pilot project will begin with a pilot project implemented on a few national highways. After successful testing, it will be rolled out nationwide, benefiting millions of travelers.
