Fans have shown their support for a former star of I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! after he bravely shared his past struggles with suicidal thoughts.

Roman Kemp, who secured third place in the 2019 series of I'm A Celebrity, while his father, pop legend Martin Kemp, was recently evicted from the current series, opened up about his mental health during an episode of BBC's travel series Celebrity Race Across the World.

In the programme, which sees Roman and his elder sister Harleymoon competing against three other pairs to reach destinations in Central America, the 32-year-old became emotional as he reflected on his journey. Deep in the jungle, he confessed that such moments might never have occurred.

Describing his experience, he said: "This feels like a proper step into the jungle. It's a really nice feeling you know when you're not thinking about anything and you've just got a job to do. It's kind of a nice break from your own brain I guess."

He continued: "You know there have been moments in my life where I didn't even want to be here any more and things like this make me think if I had made different decisions I wouldn't have seen this and I never would have experienced this and I never, you know... yeah, it shows that there's stuff worth living for," reports the Daily Star.

In another video clip he tearfully confessed: "I remember one moment in particular where it was really bad. I just remember my mum passing the phone to Harley and Harley trying to just talk to me just to, I guess, distract me and keep me on the phone so that my mum could get in the car and drive to me. I don't think I've ever spoken to Harley about that call. I don't think we've been ready to have that conversation, it's really hard.

"What I do know is that conversation between my mum and Harley might have saved my life on that day."

Following Roman's heartfelt revelation, Celebrity Race Across the World viewers flocked to social media platform X to show their support.

One wrote: "Watching #RaceAcrossTheWorld. In tears. #Roman and #HarleyMoon are the most lovely, gorgeous people. I just want to hug them both. This trip will be cathartic and healing for them."

A second remarked: "Wanna applaud #RomanKemp so much for being so open and honest about his #mentalhealth issues. Such a wonderful role model for young men everywhere".

Another posted: "So so moving between @‌romankemp and @‌harleymoonkemp heartbreaking from Roman and Harley's such a brilliant sister - a tower of strength #raceacrosstheworld".

A fourth shared: "That moment between Roman and his sister. Sometimes we don't realise how important one conversation or moment can be".
