When the British shifted the capital of India from Kolkata to Delhi in 1911, they asked the kings and emperors across the country to build houses for their living in Delhi. Lutyens’ Delhi was being settled. Nizam Osman Ali Khan felt that when he came to Delhi to meet the Viceroy, why should he stay in a hotel or a small house? This would be an insult to his honour. Therefore, to show his wealth, he started building this palace in 1926 and it was completed in 1928. The specialty of this building is its architecture. It was designed by the famous English architect Edwin Lutyens. Its map is in the shape of a butterfly. It is spread over more than 8 acres of land.
