Fans watching the 2026 World Cup draw were quick to raise complaints as a result of how long it took to actually get the process underway. All eyes were on the draw - in Washington DC - as nations across the globe began their dream of worldwide footballing success.

England, alongside world champions Argentina, are among the favourites for next summer's tournament. However, supporters were forced to wait some time before discovering their nation's opponents.

Co-hosted by supermodel Heidi Klum, comedian Kevin Hart and actor Danny Ramirez, the glittering ceremony kick-started with a performance from Andrea Bocelli - before Robbie Williams and Nicole Scherzinger took to the stage.

And it didn't take long for social media users - watching around the world - to voice their complaints about how long the draw was taking to actually start.

One person wrote on X: "Just like CL group stage draw, looks like the FIFA World Cup draw will take 10 years. Not sure which is worse, but looking like World Cup draw with all this music and awards etc."

Another went on: "Why does the World Cup draw need all this cringe?" Then, a third said: "Why is the World Cup draw taking two hours?" That user added a sleeping emoji.

After FIFA president Gianni Infantino had took to the stage to address the crowd, claiming there will be six billion people watching the World Cup from home, more fans flocked to social media.

"Okay, so far this World Cup draw is horrific and cringe. Just do the draw and show us the groups," one wrote.

Another continued: "Bro they're dragging this World Cup draw." One frustrated viewer wrote: "The World Cup live draw is just miserable television. Just draw the groups, damn it!!!"

Elsewhere, others took issue with Williams and Scherzinger's performance, in which they sang brand-new football anthem; Desire.

One said: "Robbie Williams and Nicole Scherzinger? Is this the World Cup Draw or the X Factor Final?" Then another vented: "Just tuned in to watch the #WorldCup draw and Robbie Williams is singing... Can't we just get on with it?!"

A third said: "Not half dragging this Borld Cup draw out and it's Robbie Williams now," while a fourth added: "Didn't have Robbie Williams and Nicole Scherzinger singing a World Cup song together, but here we are."
