If Western fans are in need of another drama to binge, look no further. The 1998 drama, The Magnificent Seven, is a television series based on the 1960 film, which was itself a remake of the 1954 Japanese film, Seven Samurai. The series, which is now streaming on Amazon Prime, was developed by Pen Densham and John Watson.

It includes a stellar cast, including Michael Biehn, Eric Close, Ron Perlman, and Robert Vaughn, who played one of the seven gunmen in the 1960 film. The two-series drama follows seven men from the Midwest who band together and develop their own law in a town that, for better or for worse, needs their protection from the lawlessness of the wild, wild west.

They are made up of an infamous gunslinger, an ex-bounty hunter, a smooth-talking con artist, a young eastern amateur, a womanising gunman, a freed slave-turned-healer, and a former preacher seeking penance.

Although they originally band together to protect a dusty Seminole village from renegade former Confederate soldiers, they later come together to protect the blossoming town from the constant horrors that threaten to destroy it.

The series was largely filmed in Newhall, California. The pilot, directed by New Zealander Geoff Murphy, was shot in Mescal, Arizona, and the Dragoon Mountains of Arizona, near Tombstone.

The series was praised by critics and fans alike, with the show scooping up an Emmy Award for Outstanding Costume Design for a Series for two consecutive years in 1998 and 1999.

They also received an award from the Art Directors Guild for Excellence in Production Design in 2000 and an award from the Costume Designers Guild for Outstanding Period/Fantasy Television Series in 2000.

Since its release, the series has received an impressive score of 7.4 out of 10 on the popular critics' website, IMDb. Despite being released nearly three decades ago, fans continue to shower the beloved western with praise online.
