New Delhi. Fitment Factor plays the most important role in determining the salaries of central employees. This factor helps in determining the new salary of the employees by increasing the existing basic salary. The salaries of the employees are decided accordingly.
Previous Position – 7th Pay Commission
The fitment factor in the 7th Pay Commission was 2.57. Due to this, the minimum wage increased from about ₹ 7,000 to ₹ 18,000. This step was taken with the aim of improving the economic condition of the employees and reducing the impact of inflation.
Now 8th Pay Commission
Many estimates regarding fitment factor are being discussed in the 8th Pay Commission. In media and expert reports it is being said to be around 1.92, 2.08 and 2.86. However, there has been no official announcement from the central government yet.
New salary estimate
Suppose the fitment factor is kept at 1.92, then for employees who are currently on ₹19,900 basic salary, their new salary will be as follows: NewSalary = OldSalary × FitmentFactor = 19,900 × 1.92 = ₹38,208. Thus, if 1.92 fitment factor is adopted, the salary of the employees will increase almost double.
Apart from this, there will be further increase in salary by adding DA, HRA (House Rent Allowance) and TA (Travelling Allowance). However, till now no official announcement has been made by the government regarding the fitment factor. Currently preparations are going on.
