ChatGPT users are currently frustrated by a new feature. The chatbot is suggesting unrelated apps during conversations. Users believe it's an ad, but the company denies it.

OpenAI's AI chatbot, ChatGPT, is currently facing user outrage. A new feature is showing unrelated app suggestions to users mid-conversation. Users with both the free and premium Pro versions are seeing these suggestions. This chatbot starts suggesting shopping or fitness-related apps in the middle of random conversations, even when the conversation is on a completely different topic. Users are calling it an ad, but the company is denying it.

What's going on with ChatGPT?

OpenAI says these app suggestions are related to a recently introduced third-party integration. These suggestions are being shown to help users. It's worth noting that services like Walmart and Spotify have now been integrated into the ChatGPT interface, eliminating the need for users to open dedicated apps to use them. On the other hand, users have reported that ChatGPT is providing these suggestions in a completely different context. One user reported that they were inquiring about a problem with Windows when they were shown suggestions to shop on a shopping app.

The Company Wants to Monetize ChatGPT

The company has been exploring ways to monetize ChatGPT for quite some time. The company believes that 20 percent of its future revenue will come from shopping and advertising features in ChatGPT. Therefore, users may also see advertisements in ChatGPT in the future. Furthermore, the company expects that 8.5 percent of its 2.6 billion weekly users, or approximately 220 million users, will purchase the premium version of ChatGPT. If this happens, it could become the world's largest subscription service.
