But actor R Madhavan once revealed a surprisingly simple method that helped him lose weight fast — and it had nothing to do with the gym, supplements, or surgery.

In 2022, Madhavan gained several kilos for his film Rocketry. But what grabbed attention was how he dropped that extra weight in just 21 days. Fans were shocked, especially after the actor confirmed that he didn’t rely on any extreme diet, medical procedure or intense physical training.

So how did he do it? The actor himself shared the answer in an interview.

The Technique That Changed Everything

Madhavan explained that the most significant turning point in his weight-loss journey was learning how to chew his food properly. He said he made it a rule to chew every bite 45 to 60 times, allowing the food to break down naturally before swallowing. According to him, this one habit made a dramatic difference to his digestion, energy levels and overall weight.

Interestingly, a 2014 study published in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics supports this. The research suggested that chewing food more thoroughly reduces overall food intake, helping manage weight more effectively.

Choosing the Right Meals

The actor also shared that he listened closely to what his body needed. He underwent an allergy test to understand which foods didn’t suit him. Once he knew what to avoid, he moved to a cleaner, more nourishing diet focused on easy-to-digest foods.

His plate mainly included freshly cooked meals, green vegetables, and simple homemade dishes. Processed food was removed entirely from his routine.

He also followed a strict rule — after 3 PM, he avoided all raw foods. After 3 PM, he ate only freshly prepared meals, and his last meal was served at 6:45 PM.

Why Intermittent Fasting Worked for Him?

Madhavan also credited intermittent fasting for helping him feel lighter and more energetic. He maintained a fixed eating window every day, which supported digestion and helped regulate his body’s internal rhythm. Combined with mindful chewing, this eating pattern accelerated his transformation.

Lifestyle Habits That Supported His Weight Loss

The actor emphasized that weight loss is not just about diet — lifestyle matters just as much.

He made sure to:

  1. Begin his mornings with a walk to keep his body active
  2. Drink enough water throughout the day
  3. Maintain a proper sleep cycle
  4. Avoid screens at least 90 minutes before bedtime
  5. These foundational habits helped regulate metabolism and improve overall well-being.
