Households in parts of the UK are being urged to stockpile key items for emergencies before Monday after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for several areas in England and in Wales.
The forecaster has issued a yellow weather warning for rain for 16 areas in England, as well as 16 areas in Wales, while also issuing another three yellow weather warnings for rain elsewhere in England, Scotland and Wales.
It warned that heavy rain is likely to bring disruption and 'extensive' flooding of homes and businesses is possible on Monday, December 8.
It also warned of 'difficult' driving conditions, loss of power and flooding as well as damage to buildings. The warning begins at 6pm on Monday and is in place until 6pm on Tuesday.
The Met Office said in its warning: "Outbreaks of rain will become persistent and heavy on Monday night into Tuesday morning, and whilst the rain may be more intermittent during Tuesday daytime some occasional heavy bursts will still be possible. There will naturally be some variation in rainfall totals across the area, but accumulations of 20-40 mm are likely in quite a few places, with 60-80 mm over Dartmoor and high ground in south Wales.
"There is a small chance of 80-100 mm falling over the most exposed, prone hills. Given the saturated nature of the ground, this is likely to lead to some flooding in places and transport disruption. Rain will also be accompanied by strengthening southerly winds, which may exacerbate impacts.
Households are being urged to stock up on emergency supplies, including gathering a torch, batteries, a mobile phone power bank and other essential items.
It adds: "People cope better with power cuts when they have prepared for them in advance. It's easy to do; consider gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items."
