WhatsApp is working on UPI Lite feature for its users, through which small amount transactions can be done without entering the PIN. According to reports, this feature will make the transaction process of WhatsApp easier. This information has come to light during an APK teardown, in which code strings to UPI Lite were found in beta version 2.25.5.17 of WhatsApp.
UPI Lite is a system that makes small payments possible even without an internet connection. It has been developed by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and is used for transactions less than Rs 500. It is linked to the users’ mobile number and makes the payment process faster.
This new feature of WhatsApp can provide the facility of non-failed payment even when the server is busy. With this, users will be able to make payment in a single click. Additionally, they will be able to add and withdraw money from the platform at any time, although this feature will only be active on the device where it is set up and will not be available on other connected devices.
WhatsApp is continuously working to improve financial services for Indian users. According to recent reports, the company may soon bring features like electricity bill, mobile recharge, water bill, house rent, gas bill and postpaid landline bill payment on its platform. WhatsApp already offers UPI payment feature where users can link their bank account with WhatsApp and conduct transactions. The addition of UPI Lite will make this facility even easier, especially for small payments.
