Obesity problem and effect of medicines

Nowadays obesity has become a common problem, which is affecting people of all ages. It not only harms physical health but also affects mental health. A new study has revealed that when people stop taking these injections, their weight starts increasing again.

Rebound effect of anti-obesity drugs

Drugs such as semaglutide (Ozempic) and liraglutide are being considered important in the fight against obesity. Researchers at Peking University have conducted a study on this topic.

In this study, a clinical trial was conducted on 1573 participants, in which they were given various weight loss medicines. He was monitored after stopping the medicine.

The study found that weight regain occurs about 8 weeks after stopping the drug. When drugs like Ozempic and Vegovy are stopped, weight gain begins after 8 weeks and this process continues for about 20 weeks.

After 8 weeks of stopping the drug, participants’ weight increased by 1.5 kg, after 12 weeks by 1.8 kg, and after 20 weeks by 2.5 kg. After six months, the weight stabilized.

Dr Nandita, a consultant diabetes specialist, said the study was interesting, but other research had also shown similar results. Whether the medicine is stopped or not, weight continues to increase.

Ways to lose weight in a healthy way

You can lose weight even without medicines. For this you will have to make changes in your lifestyle. Get regular exercise and use the stairs.

Follow a healthy diet, which includes green vegetables and fruits. Stay away from fast food and get 7 to 8 hours of sleep. Lack of sleep and stress also contribute to weight gain.
