Many fake chargers are sold in the market in the name of the brand, but their quality is completely different from the genuine charger. Why are counterfeit chargers so dangerous?

Fake chargers use cheap and poor quality parts. These heat up quickly during charging, which increases the risk of short circuit and fire. Fake chargers do not provide the correct voltage and amperage, which spoils the charging cycle of the battery. This increases the risk of the battery swelling, overheating or sudden damage. Incorrect voltage supply can also damage the phone's motherboard and charging integrated circuit (IC), rendering the phone unusable.

How to identify a fake charger?

Original chargers weigh more because they use good quality plastic, transformers and internal parts. At the same time, fake chargers are light and weak because they contain substandard parts. The printing on branded chargers is clean, uniform and accurate, whereas the printing on counterfeit chargers may be blurry, faded or misspelled.

The price of a company's original charger ranges from Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,200. But if the same charger is available in a shop for Rs 250-300, then it is a clear indication that it is fake. Many local chargers are also sold with the names of companies printed on them. You can identify fake chargers by using BIS Care app. For this you will have to enter the product registration number of the charger in the app. If the charger does not appear registered, it is likely to be a counterfeit.

Follow these steps to know the expiry date of the charger

Download BIS Care App. This app is available for both Android and iOS users. Open the app and go to the home page. You will see many options on the home screen. Select "Verify R-Number under CRS". Here you will get two options: Enter the product registration number or scan the QR code present on the charger. Use the registration number or QR code to get charger details. The information will also include the expiry date of your charger.
