Rahul Ravindran’s latest directorial The Girlfriend is enjoying a fresh wave of appreciation a month after its theatrical release. The film led by Rashmika Mandanna Dheekshith Shetty and Anu Emmanuel had opened in cinemas on November 7. But ever since its arrival on Netflix on December 5 it has begun drawing a wider audience and a surprising new set of admirers including Janhvi Kapoor. What did Janhvi Kapoor say about the film? On Monday Janhvi took to Instagram to share a still of Rashmika from an emotionally charged moment in the movie. Using sad-eye and clapping emojis she wrote “#TheGirlfriend. Mandatory watch.” The frame she chose shows Rashmika’s character Bhooma standing under harsh lights her eyes half-covered and her body stained with paint — a pivotal moment that captures the emotional weight of the story. Rahul Ravindran responded warmly to Janhvi’s note on X writing “Really kind of her” adding a heart to express his gratitude. About The Girlfriend Written and directed by Rahul the film marks his third outing behind the camera after Chi La Sow (2018) and Manmadhudu 2 (2019).Set in a college environment the story revolves around Bhooma Vicky and Durga — played by Rashmika Dheekshith and Anu respectively. The narrative tracks the gradual unravelling of a relationship that begins with charm and slides into toxicity. Rahul also appears in the film in a brief role as a professor. Despite mixed critical reactions The Girlfriend managed to collect ₹29.08 crore worldwide and has found renewed traction after its digital release. Where are the actors now? Janhvi has had a busy year featuring in Homebound Param Sundari and Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari along with her Telugu debut in Devara: Part 1. She is currently filming Peddi with Ram Charan. Rashmika’s lineup this year included Chhaava Sikandar Thamma Kuberaa and The Girlfriend. She is now working on Cocktail 2 in Hindi and Mysaa in Telugu.
