There's a town in the Cotswolds that transforms into a Christmas wonderland each year. Cheltenham is home to not just one, but four Christmas markets housed in charming wooden chalets, complete with street entertainers and carol singers. There's even a covered ice rink.
The regency town is brimming with quirky independent shops and boutiques, making it a fun place for gift hunting. Plus, it's easy to reach, being only a 35-minute train ride from Birmingham and a similar distance from Bristol.
Indulge in some Christmas shopping under the twinkling fairy lights on the bustling high street, along the tree-lined Promenade and in the stylish Montpellier.

There's also the Christmas Artisan Craft Market at Dunkertons Park in early December where people can meet the creators of handcrafted artisan products, including cards, stocking fillers, decorations, jewellery, ceramics, glass, prints, textiles, handmade chocolates, natural, organic beauty and wellbeing products and dog accessories.
Also in early December, the Ian Coley Sporting Christmas Market showcases a curated selection of country lifestyle brands, local artisans, and food producers, along with a festive cafe menu. Entry is free.
And, on December 11, there's a Christmas market in Prestbury to celebrate its Christmas light switch-on. There will also be a carol concert, children's activities, hot food and drink and an opportunity to see Father Christmas. The Spectacle of Light trail is being held in the gardens of the nearby Sudeley Castle.
Where to stay in CheltenhamWhy not extend your visit into a weekend getaway and book an overnight stay? Wellinghill Lodge, situated on a working farm on the outskirts of Cheltenham, offers an open-plan living space where you can unwind by a woodburning stove after a day of shopping.
Alternatively, Overbrook Cottage, located near Cheltenham, boasts beautiful walking trails right at its doorstep and a pub within walking distance. Cheltenham is also home to one of the UK's best restaurants.
