Human Rights Day 2025: Human Rights Day is celebrated worldwide on 10 December every year. This day reminds people that every human being is entitled to respect, equality and freedom from birth. The specialty of this day is that on December 10 in 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Which is considered among the most important documents in human history.
Why is Human Rights Day celebrated?
The purpose of celebrating Human Rights Day is to raise awareness of discrimination, violence, torture and crimes against humanity occurring around the world. Even today in many countries people do not get basic rights like education, health, justice, family rights, religious freedom and freedom of expression.
The UDHR was officially adopted on 10 December 1948. This declaration gave a message to every country in the world that human rights should not be limited to laws only, but they should be implemented at every level.

What is the theme of the year 2025?
The theme of this year’s Human Rights Day has been declared by the United Nations as Daily Needs. Accordingly, the National Human Rights Commission of India is also organizing a national conference in Delhi. The main objective of this conference is to explain that human rights are not just a list of rights but are deeply to the needs of everyday life.
message hidden in theme
The 2025 theme emphasizes that human rights are not limited to principles or documents alone. Which includes health services, education, housing, justice, financial inclusion, social security.
The message of the theme is clear that the availability of these services determines the quality of life of an individual. Therefore, ensuring human rights is actually about fulfilling these basic needs of the society.
According to NHRC, this year’s theme is completely connected with the development policies of India. Programs like Swachh Bharat Mission to Ayushman Bharat, Ujjwala Yojana, PM Awas Yojana to Jan Dhan Yojana are proof that India has taken human rights to the common people by linking them with everyday services.
