Jeremy Clarkson and Piers Morgan have reunited after the pair came to blows in a heated exchange more than 20 years ago. The broadcasters have a controversial history together, having found themselves in a heated fight at the 2004 British Press Awards. It is understood that the argument began when Clarkson confronted the former editor of the Daily Mirror for publishing photos of the presenter with a woman who wasn't his wife, despite the Top Gear host asking him not to publish.
Tension between the pair reared its ugly head when the Clarkson's Farm star punched Morgan on the head, leaving Clarkson with a broken finger and a scar on Morgan's head. But surprisingly, the pair appeared to have moved on from their earlier bust-up when they crossed paths at a formal event on Wednesday (December 10).
Taking to X - formerly known as Twitter - Mr Morgan shared a snap of the pair, both dressed in suits, as they beamed to the camera. He captioned the post: "Great to catch up with my fans at Christmas."
The Clarkson's Farm official X account later shared a statement from Jeremy Clarkson during his time on Top Gear, which cheekily read: "I broke my finger punching Piers Morgan in the face. You're welcome."
Morgan responded to the post: "[three cry-laughing emojis] It was a very festive catch-up... Jeremy proudly showed me his disfigured finger, and I proudly showed him the scar on my temple from where he punched me."
It didn't take long before fans flocked to the comments to share their surprise online. One user warned: "Watch out, Jeremy has a free hand... [shocked emoji]," as another chuckled: "Clarkson looks like a hostage."
A third agreed: "[Clarkson] seems happy to see you" as a fourth chimed in with: "Jeremy with the most telling facial expression [cry-laughing emoji]."
Morgan opened up on the incident in more detail in his new book, Woke is Dead, where the 60-year-old shared his recollection of the fateful night.
He wrote: "He ended up punching me before we settled things at the British Press Awards. I've still got the scar on my forehead, and it wasn't entirely unjustified, so I have no complaints about it.
"Although I think he had a very weak punch, and he did break his finger hitting my head, which is quite satisfying." Years later, Morgan revealed that Clarkson wanted to clear the air privately with him.
He added: "He contacted me out of the blue and said, 'Morgan, Clarkson here, drink?' We met in my local pub and actually had a great night. We got his daughter and one of my sons to act as the official peace treaty ratifiers, and peace in our time was agreed."
